October 1 Sushi Class part 2

This class was a chance to try out two experimental rolls: The Korean BBQ roll and the Mediterranean Roll.

The first roll used Trader Joes Kalbi Beef over a bed of lettuce with sesame seeds and a little Vietnamese hot sauce

The Mediterranean roll used lemon pepper chicken strips, hummus, tsaziki yogurt cucumber sauce as a sort of far east take on the classic Greek sandwich.

A wonderful time at the whittier community center, using black and white film and an old camera to take pictures for this class. Unfortunately, this also means that it took much too long to get everything uploaded.

Obon Festival Season

Hello all! As we said in our class last night, July and August are jam packed with Japanese festivals. They usually start in the afternoon and run until 9 or so in the evening, culminating in easy-to-learn odori dancing. The food is always good, with each temple competing to make the best teriyaki, sushi or noodles-most will also have special unique dishes that only they make.

Some info:

Here's a schedule for the festivals in Los Angeles

And here's the page for my temple's festival.
